The detail

Dry Ridge and Dry Verge in Barnsley: what is actually involved

Mortar is the weak point on most older roofs. It shrinks, cracks and lets go, ridge tiles work loose, and lumps of it end up on the drive.

A dry ridge system removes the mortar and fixes each ridge tile mechanically over a ventilated roll. Dry verge caps do the same along the gable ends. Both need far less maintenance than mortar and help ventilate the roof space.

Dry-fix systems are now standard on new roofs and are a common upgrade on existing ones.

Questions

Dry Ridge and Dry Verge questions

The things homeowners ask us most, answered without the sales talk.

See all FAQs
Is dry ridge better than mortar?

For most roofs, yes. It does not crack or wash out, and it ventilates the ridge. It is now required on most new roofs.

Can you keep my existing ridge tiles?

Usually. Sound ridge tiles are lifted, cleaned and refixed. Broken ones are replaced with the closest match.
